Facebook Purchased WhatsApp for $19 Billion
Tech, Communication and Social Media’s biggest news of this week was Facebook’s acquisition of WhatsApp – WhatsApp is a world famous instant messaging and free text messaging app for Smartphones. Facebook Purchased WhatsApp for $19 Billion, and showed that 5 years old start-up was worth to be purchased.
Facebook already own Instagram, and now it has bagged WhatsApp – There are millions of questions and indications opened up after this acquisition – Facebook has been a giant of its own kind, and almost ended Social media networks like myspace, hi5 and Orkut.
Facebook looks pretty clear to get world’s internet users attention and accessibility – Instagram is insanely famous picture sharing online community which was available for iPhone initially, later on it arrived on Android, and then web-based interface was also made available for the users.
WhatsApp has been an addiction for communication and chat addicts – Have you forgotten Yahoo and Msn messengers? Well, Skype made them ancient platforms – New generation (age group from 10 to 18) who are getting their Smartphones or sneak into their parents Smartphones to play games, probably don’t know about those messengers that have been a craze before Skype.

WhatsApp reached to 400m active users in December 2014 – I was in UAE in November 2013, and actually found a huge craze of WhatsApp there – Similarly, USA, Asia and Australia are also big markets of WhatsApp as compared to Asian free text messaging rivals like KakaoTalk, LINE, Wechat and Viber.

WhatsApp is California based American start-up, initiated by two former Yahoo employees Brian Acton and Jan Koum. Chinese Wechat has been a leader in China, and recently in chinese version of Wechat, we have heard about the shopping features + Cabs hiring facility added which turned out to be very famous in January 2014.
