Warid Telecom Might Jump-in for 3G/4G Technology in Pakistan
Warid Telecom’s absence for getting 3G/4G spectrum for Next Generation Mobile Services hasn’t been a hidden fact for weeks since 3G/4G discussion begun in December 2013 in Pakistan. Later on, In April 2014, auction was held at PTA headquarter in Islamabad.
All current mobile operators of Pakistan except Warid Telecom showed their interest and purchased 3G spectrum. Mobilink, Ufone, Zong and Telenor purchased offered 3G spectrum, whereas only Zong captured extra 4G spectrum in their bag.
Mobilink and Zong managed to get 10 MHZ 3G share, whereas Ufone and Telenor got 5 MHZ share for 3G. It has been a successful phase for Pakistan mobile computing and technology. Country is all set to roll out starting phase of 3G/4G technology in the major cities in next few months.
Recently left-alone telecom operator Warid showed its interest for 3G/4G – Rumors are everywhere on the Social Media about Warid’s interest for Next Generation Mobile Services, even PTA wrote in a press release about the meeting of Chairman PTA Dr. Syed Ismail Shah with Mr. Muneer Farooqui, CEO Warid Telecom [in Pakistan] which was recently held.
That meeting was held to discuss the possibility of Warid Telecom’s joining the 4G Club in Pakistan after the auction process – It is pretty clear that Warid doesn’t want to launch 4G service immediately in the country, as its a long process, and can’t be possible as well…
But, intent has been seen, which is quite good to see… And a sigh of satisfaction for Warid Customers who were feeling isolated after all other operators got 3G technology, and Warid Telecom was the only operator without any sign of 3G/4G technology.
Press release of PTA tells us that Warid’s license is neutral and certainly needs PTA Consent over launching the Next Generation Mobile Service – It looks like PTA is fully committed to make sure that technology should be reached to the average user, and must be provided in the best interest of the country and its people.
